March 27, 2018 – Cambridge, Ontario – Precimac Tool Ltd is happy to announce that it has invested in a new EDM Die Sinking Machine to diversify its presence in the industry.
EDM Die Sinking
An EDM Die Sinking is a manufacturing process whereby a desired shape is obtained by using electrical discharges. Material is removed from the work piece by a series of rapidly recurring current discharges between the electrodes and the part, separated by a dielectric liquid and subject to an electric voltage.
Multi-diameter complex small bore features can now be achieved with high precision and consistency as opposed to grinding these features. EDM Die Sinking converts the difficult and challenging ID grinding of a typical small “cylindrical – taper – cylindrical bore” feature into a more visible and measurable OD grinding of electrodes that transfer the complex form into a Solid Carbide Die.
Benefits offered
Precimac Tool Ltd offers its customers a high precision and complex feature of a die manufacturing with our mature and sophisticated high precision grinding capability. We have a unique advantage in manufacturing our own ultra-high precision ground electrodes which is fundamental for high precision EDM Die Sinking.
The first focus is providing high precision Solid Carbide Die components that are not popular in the industry yet. Carbide dies can be used in forming parts with high wear resistance and durability, contributing to long tool life and low cost per piece.
The project is expected to reach the production phase in July 2018.
